Is It Okay If My Saniderm Gets Wet?
Submerging a tattoo in water of any kind is a big no-no and can actually be detrimental to the healing process. Due to this, showering can be a little tricky. You need to pay attention to the exact temperature of the water, be cautious of how long the tattoo stays wet, and avoid getting any soaps or shampoos on the area that contain fragrances or color dyes.
When you use Saniderm to heal your tattoo, you will find the process much easier.
While we don’t recommend taking a bath or going swimming after applying your Saniderm, taking a shower isn’t an issue.
Saniderm is a medical-grade, waterproof bandage, that allows you to shower anytime. Just be sure to leave the bandage on for the length of time as instructed by your artist. And remember, if you get your Saniderm wet, it’s no big deal! Saniderm stays on skin even when wet.
Saniderm also prevents unwanted contaminants such as soaps and shampoos from coming into contact with your freshly tattooed skin. This helps to minimize any unnecessary irritation you may experience from these factors.
Although you can easily wash after applying Saniderm, it is important to still monitor the time you spend in the shower. Prolonged exposure to water will weaken the adhesion, so avoid soaking. As with all tattoo aftercare regulations, you should avoid submerging your tattoo in any body of water. This includes baths, lakes, pools, hot tubs, or oceans.
Can you Swim with Sandierm?
As we previously mentioned, submerging your tattoo in water can be detrimental to the healing process. This includes going for a swim. While Saniderm is a medical-grade, waterproof bandage, it’s not recommended to go swimming while wearing it. The pressure and movement of swimming can dislodge the bandage and disrupt the healing process. Additionally, the chemicals and chlorine in swimming pools can irritate the healing tattoo.
It’s important to follow the instructions given by your tattoo artist and to avoid any activities that may cause your Saniderm to come off or irritate the healing tattoo. If you’re unsure about an activity, it’s best to err on the side of caution and avoid it. Stick to taking showers and keeping your tattoo dry as much as possible while it’s healing. Remember, Saniderm is designed to keep your tattoo protected, so it’s best to avoid activities that may compromise its effectiveness.

Had it on for 4 days not any liquid anymore just dry and itches.. when do.i need to take it off?

As long as the seal of the Saniderm isn’t broken you can leave it on. If it becomes too uncomfortable you can remove it and continue with traditional tattoo aftercare procedures.

Got a tattoo 24 hours ago and water got into the saniderm bandage. I was able to push the water out but now the tattoo is exposed to bacteria. What should I do to keep it clean? Should it be removed?

If the tattoo is exposed within the 24 hours you can remove the bandage, clean the tattoo area and apply a second bandage. If you don’t have a second bandage we recommend using traditional tattoo aftercare procedures.

Saniderm should only need to be used within the first 7 days of having a tattoo. After that, your tattoo should be safe to go into the water.

I was told I could l could take the saniderm off, wash and reapply it too my tattoo is that correct?

Saniderm should not be applied to a tattoo after the 48 hour period. At this point, the body is reaching the conclusion of the open wound stage and enters the peeling stage. The skin below the top layer of peeling skin is highly sensitive and should not have the adhesive directly applied to it at this point in its healing.
The recommended instructions are to apply at the finish of the tattoo and leave on for 24 hours. This will fill up with plasma. At the 24 hour mark, remove and wash the tattoo. Once dry, apply a second piece that will stay on for up to 6 days for a total healing time of 7 days. If the tattoo weeps into the second piece of film, follow the above instructions at the next 24 hour period and apply a 3rd piece. The third piece would then stay on for 5 days.

So i removed my saniderm after the first 24 hours washed and applied another piece. The next day i was in the shower and soap and water got up under it should i replace it again or leave it on ?

I am 60 and have older skin. First tattoo. I applied saniderm immediately after procedure. Now, 24hrs later, still no plasma or blood and saniderm is pretty tightly sealed to the tattoo. Should I still remove it, clean it, it, apply some conditioner and re-apply saniderm? I don’t want it to dry out or the sandiderm to adhere to the tattoo.

Congratulations on your first tattoo! Better late than never, I say. If your tattoo isn’t pushing out much fluid AND your skin underneath the bandage isn’t experiencing any irritation from the bandage, my recommendation would be to leave it on for 3-5 days and then begin an external cleaning & moisturizing regimen from there. Your tattoo is in deeper layers of your skin and the Saniderm bandage is mainly only adhering to skin that is being sloughed off through exfoliation and your body’s healing process.
