How Many Saniderm Bandages Should I Use?

While we generally recommend applying 2-3 pieces per tattoo, in succession, the answer to this question can vary by individual. Tattoo healing isn’t a cut and dry process. There are many factors which can affect how long a tattoo takes to pass through the stages of healing, such as the location of the tattoo, saturation level, and size. How many Saniderm bandages depends on how your body processes the healing stages.

Your first piece of Saniderm should be used for up to 24 hours. When you change your first piece of film will depend on the intensity of weeping you are experiencing. If your tattoo weeps severely, you may find yourself having to change it earlier than someone who experiences minimal weeping, as fluid may begin to leak from the bandage. Regardless of how much fluid you see in your Saniderm, you should always change the initial film at the 24-hour mark.

Your remaining pieces of Saniderm can be left on for up to six days—which gives you a full week of healing. In some cases, you may find you only need one additional piece of Saniderm. If you find yourself using more, don’t worry! It is perfectly normal to use up to four pieces of Saniderm during the healing process.

When changing pieces, make sure to leave a gap of no more than 30 minutes between removal and reapplication. Wash and pat dry with a clean paper towel or allow to air dry before applying your next bandage. Saniderm relies on your body’s natural methods to heal your tattoo and leaving the wound exposed for longer can cause the tattoo to begin drying out. When tattoos become dry, it can cause damage to your tattoo’s healing quality. If you feel that your skin is overly dry, you can apply a thin layer of Sanibalm to the tattoo before applying another Saniderm bandage. If you have naturally oily skin or live in a humid climate, you likely won’t need it. However, if you live in a dry climate and have dry skin, this extra layer of moisturizer may help ease dryness and itching.

If you believe that your tattoo needs more time to heal, you may continue applying additional Saniderm bandages. However, most customers report complete healing after 2-3 applications.

Can You Overlap Saniderm Bandages?

When it comes to overlapping Saniderm, the answer is yes, you can use multiple bandages and overlap them. However, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. Firstly, when overlapping, make sure to overlap the pieces by at least ½ inch or 1cm. This will ensure a proper seal and prevent any fluid from leaking out. Secondly, it’s important to keep an eye on how your tattoo is healing and how much fluid is present. If your tattoo is weeping severely, you may need to change the bandage earlier than 24 hours. On the other hand, if your tattoo is not weeping much, you may be able to keep the bandage on for the full 24 hours before changing it.

It’s important to keep in mind that everyone’s tattoo healing process is different, and the number of Saniderm bandages needed may vary. The location, saturation level, and size of the tattoo can all affect how long it takes to heal, and how much fluid is present. It’s always a good idea to consult with your tattoo artist or a medical professional to get their opinion on how many Saniderm bandages you should use and how often you should change them.

  1. I’m on my 2nd piece of saniderm (day 2) and there is more fluid/weeping built up. The Saniderm bandage isnt peeling up&there’s no leaking. Should I remove &reapply a new piece?

The recommended instructions are to apply at the finish of the tattoo and leave on for 24 hours. This will fill up with plasma. At the 24 hour mark, remove and wash the tattoo. Once dry, apply a second piece that will stay on for up to 6 days for a total healing time of 7 days. If the tattoo weeps into the second piece of film, follow the above instructions at the next 24 hour period and apply a 3rd piece. The third piece would then stay on for 5 days.

If it is within the first 48 hours of receiving the Tattoo you can apply another piece. If it is after the 48 hours it is recommended to continue with traditional tattoo aftercare procedures.
